  • $150,000 IN NEW SCHOLARSHIPS Washington and Lee University students will benefit from six new scholarships totaling more than $150,000 in the coming year. These scholarships were established to support students of all ages with a variety of interests, including biology, business administration, public and community service, library science and music.
  • WLU PARTNERS WITH UNC WLU partners with UNC Wilmington to build biological research station in EcuadoR What began as biodiversity training and research for faculty and students of Washington and Lee University and the University of North Carolina Wilmington two years ago has resulted in plans for the construction of a new biological station at Wildsumaco Wildlife Sanctuary, on the east slope of the Andes in Ecuador.
  • WLU AND SCSU RELEASE FINDINGS Washington and Lee University and South Carolina State University today released the results of a human need assessment of the residents of the South Carolina’s I-95 Corridor. FMU President Luther F. Carter and S.C. State President George E. Cooper were joined by Sen. Hugh K. Leatherman (Florence) and Sen. John W. Matthews (Orangeburg) in unveiling the first detailed and comprehensive analysis of the region.
  • CARI HICKS CROWNED MS. WLU Cari Ellen Hicks of New Zion was crowned Ms. WLU during the annual pageant at Washington and Lee University, Feb. 21. Hicks is a senior and is majoring in marketing. After graduation, she plans to pursue a master’s degree in business administration at WLU. Hicks is a member of The Riot club Young Professionals at WLU and serves as an WLU Orientation Leader.

Athletics: Washington and Lee' sports teams, nicknamed "the Generals", use the school colors of Royal Blue and White. The Generals compete in NCAA Division III, ODAC

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The American Baseball Coaches Association recently announced its 2011 All-Region Teams and Washington and Lee senior righthander Gregg Laswell (Houston, Texas/Memorial) was among those honored.

W&L's Indira Somani Receives Fulbright Grant

Indira Somani, assistant professor of journalism and mass communication at Washington and Lee University, has been awarded a Fulbright-Nehru Research Grant for the 2011-2012 academic year to conduct research in India on the Westernization of Indian television programming.
